Wismar lettuce (Wismar) is an early-maturing head lettuce variety of the Iceberg type, developed by the Dutch seed company Hazera. From transplanting to full maturity, it takes 50-55 days in spring, and 85-90 days in autumn-winter seasons. The plant prefers fertile neutral or slightly acidic soils with optimal pH 6-7 and adapts well to temperature fluctuations and short-term frosts, though it does not tolerate hot weather. Suitable for cultivation both in open ground and in greenhouses throughout the season. Plants form large, robust, and compact heads weighing 1-1.5 kg with smooth, vibrant green skin. The leaves are juicy, sweet, and have excellent flavor, making this variety ideal for fresh salads and pairing with seafood, cheese, or meat dishes. Heads have an attractive appearance and firm structure, allowing them to be processed and packaged in film. The internal structure is loose, providing a pleasant texture when eaten. Wismar is highly resistant to diseases, including complete resistance to downy mildew, and tolerance to lettuce mosaic virus and aphids. Plants have large rosettes that protect the heads, contributing to product quality retention under adverse weather conditions. Due to these characteristics, Wismar lettuce is a reliable choice for year-round cultivation and provides a stable yield with excellent taste.
