Lettuce Dragon

French Excellence in Lettuce Breeding: The Dragon Variety

In the competitive market of Batavia-type leafy greens, the Dragon hybrid from the renowned French breeding company Vilmorin-Mikado occupies a niche of reliable, early-maturing solutions for intensive cultivation. This variety is the preferred choice for producers who prioritize yield stability and the mitigation of risks associated with common phytopathologies.

A Biological Shield for Your Crop

The primary advantage of the Dragon variety is its genetically encoded resistance to a wide range of agricultural challenges. In conditions of high humidity or the challenging microclimate of greenhouses, the plant demonstrates high resistance to downy mildew (peronospora), while also effectively countering powdery mildew. Furthermore, the comprehensive protection against pests is noteworthy: the breeders at Vilmorin-Mikado have provided this variety with significant resistance to both lettuce aphid and root aphid.

Agrotechnical Insights

Dragon is a classic Batavia type, forming a dense and attractive rosette of leaves with a consistent medium weight. Due to its early maturation, the variety allows for highly efficient crop rotation, ensuring high-quality commercial produce within a short timeframe. This makes Dragon an optimal choice both for commercial farms focused on the fresh market and for retail chains that impose strict requirements regarding uniformity and the visual appearance of the head.
