Lettuce Sirmai

Focus on vivid color and crop health

The 'Sirmai' lettuce variety from Dutch breeders Rijk Zwaan exemplifies how modern breeding meets the farmer's need for stability. In the red leaf lettuce segment, visual appeal is everything: consumers choose with their eyes, prioritizing a deep, vibrant color. 'Sirmai' holds its own in this regard, offering an intense red hue that remains consistent under standard growing conditions.

Protection that saves the budget

Infection pressure is the primary challenge in lettuce production. 'Sirmai' is engineered with a focus on comprehensive resistance. Whether in open fields or greenhouse environments, the variety demonstrates strong immunity to:

• Downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) — the primary threat during high-humidity periods.
• Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) — crucial for preventing leaf deformation.
• Lettuce aphid (Nasonovia ribisnigri) — significantly reducing the need for insecticide treatments.

These traits allow producers to minimize their chemical footprint, which is a major advantage for both modern retail networks and health-conscious end consumers.

Who is this variety for?

'Sirmai' is tailored for professionals supplying the fresh market and culinary mix industry. Its medium maturity cycle makes it an excellent tool for scheduled production. Unlike many varieties that lose leaf density under stress, this hybrid maintains its texture, which facilitates logistics and extends shelf life. The trade-off for its high performance is a requirement for precise irrigation management, as its intense coloration relies on well-balanced nutrition. It is the ideal choice for those who value both aesthetic quality and production efficiency.
