Lettuce FREZER

Sustainable Leaf Lettuce Production

The «Frezer» variety, developed by the Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK), is a reliable choice for commercial lettuce growers focused on yield consistency. Its genetic resistance to downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) and lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, making it an economically viable option for outdoor field production.

Field Application and Strategy

As a leaf-type lettuce, «Frezer» offers a vibrant green color and uniform head formation, which are essential traits for retail and wholesale supply chains. Key practical applications include:

• Succession planting: Its growth cycle allows for efficient harvesting schedules to meet market demand throughout the season.
• Risk mitigation: By selecting this variety for plots prone to viral or fungal pressure, farmers can achieve higher marketable yields with less crop loss.
• Mechanization support: The plant's architecture allows for cleaner and more uniform harvesting, reducing labor costs during post-harvest sorting.

The variety shows good tolerance to environmental stressors, provided that standard irrigation protocols are maintained. Its leaf texture is robust enough to endure post-harvest logistics, ensuring the product reaches the end consumer with minimal wilting or damage. For the professional grower, this translates into a higher ROI per square meter.
