Lettuce Gypsy

Consistency in Professional Farming

The «Gipsy» lettuce is a strategic choice for growers who prioritize predictability and high-quality yield in both greenhouse and open-field conditions. Developed by the Russian Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK), this hybrid is engineered for intensive farming operations requiring uniform output and robust disease resistance.

Key Agronomic Strengths

• Superior Disease Resistance: The hybrid’s standout feature is its genetic resistance to downy mildew and lettuce mosaic virus, which helps reduce the need for intensive fungicide spraying.
• Pest Management: High tolerance to lettuce aphids ensures that the crop maintains its marketability, preventing leaf damage that often leads to significant post-harvest losses.
• Uniform Production: As a mid-season variety, Gipsy forms a tight, well-structured rosette. This uniformity is crucial for automated harvesting workflows and standardized packaging.

Field Application and Scenarios

Gipsy is highly regarded by commercial producers and those supplying the HoReCa sector. Its medium-sized head is ideal for individual packaging, making it a reliable staple for fresh-market supply chains. In field conditions, the plant demonstrates resilience against temperature fluctuations. For best results, growers should manage planting density to ensure the rosettes have sufficient space to reach their target mass, maximizing total yield per hectare. The variety’s stable growth cycle makes it an excellent candidate for crop rotation programs in protected structures.
