Lettuce Dzhiska

Reliable butterhead lettuce for professional growers

Working with the "Jiska" hybrid from Rijk Zwaan, you quickly realize why Dutch breeding standards are held in such high regard. This butterhead lettuce is predictable and consistent, making it a reliable performer in both greenhouse and open-field conditions. For an agronomist, it translates to less time spent troubleshooting and more time focusing on scaling production.

Key Advantages in the Field

• Disease Resistance: The standout feature is its genetic resistance to Downy Mildew and Powdery Mildew. This significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, which cuts down labor costs and improves the overall sustainability of the crop.
• Uniformity: Jiska produces a consistent, medium-sized head. This uniformity is a major plus during the harvest phase, as it ensures a high pack-out rate that meets the strict requirements of retail chains.
• Market Appeal: The vibrant green color is maintained even under temperature stress, ensuring the final product looks fresh on the shelf.

Cultivation and Performance

With an average maturity timeframe, Jiska fits perfectly into any succession planting schedule. The plant is not overly demanding; it responds well to standard nutrition programs and adapts easily to different substrate types. Its strong root system provides resilience, while the head itself remains firm and compact, making handling and transport much easier than with more fragile varieties.

Ultimately, Jiska is about reducing risk. By choosing this hybrid, you are investing in a reliable product that minimizes crop loss and maximizes marketability. It is a workhorse variety that delivers consistent quality from the nursery to the end customer.
