Lettuce Anthony RZ

Growing Lollo Rossa: Working with Anthony RZ

In commercial lettuce production, predictability is everything. The Anthony RZ hybrid from Rijk Zwaan is a consistent performer, reliable enough to keep your production schedule on track regardless of minor environmental fluctuations. As a grower, what you really need is a variety that looks good on the shelf without needing constant intervention, and this variety delivers: the deep, intense red color remains vibrant throughout the growth cycle.

Disease Resistance and Crop Management

The main challenge with Lollo Rossa types is susceptibility to fungal issues, particularly in high-humidity greenhouses. The genetic resistance of Anthony RZ to downy mildew and powdery mildew is a significant asset. In practice, this means fewer fungicide applications, lower operational costs, and a cleaner harvest.

Key Operational Advantages

• Visual Uniformity: The intense red pigmentation is consistent across the entire crop, which is essential for meeting the strict visual standards of modern retail.
• Growth Habit: The plant structure is ideal for high-density planting. It allows for excellent airflow, which significantly reduces the risk of leaf rot.
• Standardized Inputs: You don't need exotic fertilizers or complex growth protocols. Standard feeding regimes work perfectly with this variety, as it has been bred for high efficiency.

Bottom line: Anthony RZ is built for those who value efficiency. It’s a low-maintenance, high-yield hybrid that produces the crisp, professional-grade leaves that buyers demand, season after season.
