Lettuce Lagunas RZ

Reliable Iceberg yields: the potential of Lagunas RC

Choosing an Iceberg lettuce variety for professional production is all about result predictability. The Lagunas RC hybrid from the Dutch breeding company Rijk Zwaan is designed for growers who aim to minimize the risks of losing marketability due to diseases and pests.

Agronomic Advantages

The primary challenge with head lettuce is its high sensitivity to rots and pathogens. Lagunas RC demonstrates excellent resistance to downy mildew and lettuce aphids, significantly reducing the need for frequent fungicide and insecticide applications. This approach not only saves costs but also ensures the production of cleaner, high-quality lettuce.

• Type: Iceberg. The heads are dense with a signature crunchy leaf structure.
• Appearance: The bright light-green color makes the product highly appealing for both retail and the HoReCa segment.
• Protection: High resistance threshold against key rots, which is critical when growing in conditions with fluctuating humidity levels.

Practical Application on the Farm

Rijk Zwaan breeders have engineered Lagunas RC with an adaptability that allows it to fit into various crop rotation schemes. The main goal addressed by this hybrid is obtaining uniform produce with standardized size and density. Agronomists choose this hybrid for spring and summer growing cycles because it maintains its marketability even under intensive soil loads. The light-green hue of the heads allows them to retain freshness on the shelf for longer, minimizing post-harvest losses in retail chains.
