Lettuce Gonzalo

A Dutch standard for the fresh market

The Iceberg lettuce "Gonzalo" from the Dutch breeding company Enza Limited is a top choice for professionals focused on producing premium-quality produce. In the crisp leaf vegetable segment, this hybrid maintains a strong position due to its reliable yields and high adaptability to various growing conditions.

Agronomic advantages

The primary value of "Gonzalo" lies in the balance between head density and strong field resistance. Enza Limited breeders have placed significant emphasis on protecting the crop against the most dangerous phytopathogens affecting lettuce:

• Comprehensive protection: The hybrid features genetically inherent resistance to Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae) and Lettuce Mosaic Virus (LMV). This minimizes the risk of crop loss and reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications.
• Iceberg type: The bright green, dense heads offer an ideal texture highly prized by the HoReCa sector and retail chains. The leaves remain crisp and fresh long after harvesting.

Market positioning

Today, "Gonzalo" serves as a stable solution for farms operating in both open-field conditions and plastic greenhouses. Thanks to Dutch breeding standards, the hybrid shows excellent head uniformity, which significantly simplifies the harvesting and packaging process. This makes "Gonzalo" an economically efficient tool for modern intensive vegetable production, where demand for superior produce quality is constantly increasing.
