Lettuce Clarist

Reliable Iceberg yields: why professionals choose Klarist

When selecting an Iceberg lettuce hybrid for professional cultivation, agronomists prioritize two key metrics: head density and resistance to diseases that can compromise profitability in a matter of days. Klarist by Enza Limited is a practical solution for those planning conveyor production with minimal losses.

Agrotechnical advantages

The main challenge when growing Iceberg is avoiding Downy Mildew (Bremia), which can destroy the marketable appearance of the leaves during humid springs or autumns. Klarist’s genetic defense reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, which directly lowers production costs. This is particularly crucial for farms supplying retail chains, where requirements for pesticide residue levels are increasingly strict.

• Head structure: The variety forms a dense, well-closed head of medium weight, simplifying harvesting and packaging processes. The optimal size ensures efficiency in standard container use.
• Uniformity: High plant uniformity is critical for mechanized harvesting or simultaneous field picking. Less sorting time means a higher marketable yield per hectare.
• Virus resistance: Resistance to Lettuce Mosaic Virus (LMV) ensures stable development, even during periods of high vector insect activity.

Practical farm scenarios

Klarist performs best in open field conditions during the main growing season. It is favored for commercial planting where predictable harvest dates are vital. Due to its bright green color and crisp leaf texture, these heads are in high demand among processors and retailers alike. Farmers report that the hybrid responds exceptionally well to fertigation under drip irrigation, maintaining excellent market quality even when facing minor temperature fluctuations.
