Concorde (Concorde) lettuce is a semi-heading type of Lollo Rossa, a Dutch selection by Rijk Zwaan, suitable for cultivation both outdoors and in greenhouses. This early-maturing variety forms medium-sized semi-heading heads weighing from 300 to 500 grams. The leaves are dark red or dark purple on top and greenish-yellow underneath; they are small, smooth, crisp, and juicy, making the lettuce particularly appealing for fresh consumption and use in salads and garnishes. Concorde stands out for its vibrant leaf color, which may slightly fade under greenhouse conditions, but this does not affect its taste or product quality.
The variety exhibits high resistance to diseases including powdery mildew, downy mildew (bremia lactucae), necrosis, lettuce aphids, and internal leaf burns. It tolerates temperature fluctuations well and is resistant to bolting and flowering, ensuring a stable yield and high-quality produce. Concorde is suitable for year-round cultivation, starting from April to mid-September outdoors, and can be grown year-round in greenhouses. The plant is adaptable to various soil types but requires humidity control and regular care, including watering, weed removal, and fertilization.
Concorde lettuce has excellent transportability and retains its flavor and appearance during long-term storage and transport. The planting rate is 10–12 plants per square meter, optimal for achieving high-quality yields. Due to its excellent taste, disease resistance, and versatility, this variety is popular among farmers and suitable for both fresh produce markets and processing. Additionally, the lettuce contains significant amounts of vitamins essential for human health.
