Lettuce Cascade

Practical Application in Commercial Farming

The "Kaskad" cultivar, developed by the Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK), is a classic example of the Multyleaf lettuce type. Its main advantage for professional growers is its high harvest efficiency: upon cutting the head, the rosette immediately separates into a multitude of individual leaves ready for consumption. This significantly simplifies post-harvest handling and reduces labor costs during packaging.

Agrotechnical Features

• Maturity: Being a mid-season variety, it is ideal for succession planting. Growers use it to maintain a steady supply chain between early and late-season varieties.
• Plant Structure: The plant forms a compact rosette of medium weight. This allows for high-density planting in both greenhouses and open fields, maximizing the yield per square meter without compromising leaf quality.
• Market Appeal: The vibrant green color and uniform head size make this variety highly sought after by retailers and fresh-cut salad producers.

"Kaskad" is best suited for operations targeting the fresh market and the salad mix segment. Due to its resistance to common agronomic stresses, the variety reliably produces uniform heads that fit perfectly into standard retail packaging. By selecting "Kaskad," producers can effectively minimize waste during processing, as every leaf within the rosette is a high-quality commercial unit, making it a reliable choice for farms aiming to optimize post-harvest operations.
