Lettuce MULTIRED 134

The Evolution of Mini-Lettuce: MultiRed 134

In modern produce logistics, the demands of retail and high-end catering have shifted toward convenience, aesthetic appeal, and extended shelf life. Dutch breeding company Nunhems met this challenge by developing MultiRed 134, a standout in the Romaine segment that now sets benchmarks for baby-leaf producers.

Agronomic Profile and Resilience

MultiRed 134 is more than just a decorative crop; it is a high-tech tool for the professional farmer. Nunhems breeders have focused heavily on phytosanitary stability. In intensive farming environments, where powdery mildew and viral infections can devastate yields, this variety demonstrates exceptional resistance:

• Comprehensive protection against downy mildew (Peronospora).
• Genetic immunity to Lettuce Mosaic Virus (LMV).
• Increased tolerance to lettuce aphid infestations, significantly reducing the need for intensive fungicide and insecticide applications.

Productivity and Visual Appeal

The visual profile of MultiRed 134 is one of its primary market advantages. The plant forms a compact, mid-sized rosette with a striking color contrast: the deep dark-red leaves transition smoothly into a vibrant green at the base. This unique coloration makes it an ideal candidate for premium salad mixes.

For growers, the consistent mass of MultiRed 134 is a major benefit. The uniform size of the heads allows for precise yield forecasting, which is critical for meeting retail supply contracts. Its Dutch heritage (Nunhems, Netherlands) guarantees consistent germination rates and crop uniformity, the hallmarks of the brand's seed quality.

MultiRed 134 is well-suited for both greenhouse cultivation and hydroponic systems. In these controlled environments, it shows excellent growth dynamics and keeps its fresh, crisp texture from the field all the way to the consumer's plate.
