Lettuce SELADEON

Optimizing Production: The Celadon Lettuce Advantage

The Celadon variety, developed by VNIISSOK, stands out as a professional-grade butterhead lettuce featuring the highly efficient Multileaf trait. For commercial growers, this represents a significant shift in operational efficiency: the rosette separates into a multitude of ready-to-use leaves upon harvesting, a critical factor for Fresh-cut producers and packaged salad suppliers.

Field Application and Operational Scenarios

As a mid-maturing variety, Celadon is a versatile asset in crop rotation programs. Unlike standard butterhead varieties that require intensive manual labor for leaf separation, Celadon offers specific economic advantages:

• Reduced labor costs: Streamlines post-harvest processing by minimizing handling time.
• Enhanced shelf-life: The Multileaf structure allows for careful handling, reducing physical stress on the leaves and keeping the product fresh for longer on retail shelves.
• Predictable output: Consistent medium head mass allows for accurate yield forecasting in large-scale operations.

With its soft green foliage and buttery texture, this variety is an essential component for high-quality salad mixes. Growers should note that the Multileaf trait requires specific planting densities to ensure each rosette develops to its full potential. The variety responds excellently to drip irrigation systems and precision nutrient management programs designed to support rapid vegetative growth within the standard maturity window.

Economic Value for Modern Farms

Celadon is the choice for producers aiming for product standardization. The uniformity in maturation permits efficient, semi-mechanized harvesting with a remarkably low percentage of waste. It is a reliable, domestically developed option that provides top-tier results without the premium costs associated with imported seed material, fitting perfectly into the fast-paced requirements of both foodservice and retail markets.
