Lettuce Antolina

Stability and Adaptability in the Butterhead Segment

Antolina by Rijk Zwaan is a breeding response to the main challenges of professional vegetable farming: the need for an early harvest while maintaining high-quality produce. As a butterhead lettuce variety, this hybrid is designed primarily for farmers who prioritize predictable results in a changing climate.

Key Advantages of the Hybrid

• Comprehensive Protection: Rijk Zwaan breeders have engineered a high level of resistance to critical pathogens into this variety. Resistance to downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) and lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) minimizes the risk of yield loss during periods of high humidity.
• Efficiency and Cost-Reduction: Resistance to internal necrosis and lettuce aphids is not just a spec-sheet bullet point—it translates into lower spending on fungicides and insecticides, making Antolina an excellent choice for farms aiming for sustainable growing practices.
• Marketable Appearance: The light green leaves and balanced head structure ensure excellent presentation on supermarket shelves. The buttery leaf texture, characteristic of this type, is highly valued by consumers for its delicate, non-bitter flavor.

Who Is This Variety For?

Antolina is the perfect tool for agronomists targeting the early market. The hybrid exhibits impressive plasticity: it develops quickly and forms a dense, high-quality head even in low-light conditions during early growth stages. This makes it optimal for both greenhouse cultivation and early spring outdoor planting.

If your priority is avoiding issues with tip burn and necrosis under intensive cultivation, Antolina exceeds these expectations. It is a reliable 'workhorse' that, with proper irrigation and fertilization, consistently delivers a high yield of marketable produce.
