Lettuce Danstar

Dutch breeding for the professional market

The Danstar lettuce variety from Nunhems is the result of years of research by Dutch breeders aimed at creating an ideal product for intensive vegetable farming. As part of the extensive Nunhems portfolio, this variety has established itself firmly in the early-maturing segment, where both growth speed and the marketability of the final product are critical.

In today's market, where quality standards for leafy greens are constantly rising, Danstar demonstrates the stability rooted in its origin by Johan Van Zee. The variety is designed to produce large, well-formed light green rosettes that maintain their market quality even during long-distance transport.

Agronomic advantages

• Crop protection: Genetic resistance to downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) and lettuce mosaic virus significantly reduces the need for chemical treatments, allowing for more sustainable and eco-friendly production.
• Efficiency: Thanks to its early maturity, the variety allows growers to plan continuous harvest cycles, which is highly beneficial for early spring and summer rotations.
• Appearance: The light green leaf color and massive rosette make Danstar instantly recognizable on supermarket shelves, where visual appeal is a key factor for the end consumer.

This variety represents a logical progression of the Nunhems breeding program in the lettuce category. By choosing Danstar, growers invest in proven Dutch genetics that minimize the risk of crop loss from common pathogens while maintaining high yield potential per square meter.
