Smooth brome Sergei

Maximizing Feed Efficiency with Bromegrass «Sergei»

When establishing perennial pastures, you want reliability above all else. Choosing «Sergei» bromegrass from the Danish breeder DLF provides that predictability. This isn't a speculative seed choice; it is a proven tool for those who prioritize building a stable, high-quality forage foundation that lasts for several seasons.

Field Performance and Operational Insights

The first thing an agronomist notices with «Sergei» is its aggressive spring recovery. Bromegrass, by nature, can be slow to establish, but this variety holds its ground firmly. In temperate conditions, it demonstrates remarkable drought tolerance, which is critical for feed production. While other grasses may wilt under peak summer sun, «Sergei» remains productive, maintaining moisture in the crown nodes.

• Ease of Harvest: The variety produces a powerful yet uniform stand. From a machinery standpoint, this is a major advantage — mower-conditioners move through the field without clogging, resulting in dense, uniform windrows that are perfect for baling.
• Livestock Palatability: Livestock consume this forage readily, which translates directly into better feed conversion rates and overall herd health.
• Durability: «Sergei» proves its worth in varied terrain. It handles mechanical stresses well, keeping a thick stand where less vigorous varieties might thin out after only two seasons.

Maintenance is straightforward: focus on nitrogen application after every cut. If you manage the nutrient cycle, «Sergei» will continue to produce high-yield biomass for years. It reduces the overhead costs of frequent reseeding and machinery maintenance. For operators looking to balance feed quality with long-term field endurance, this DLF variety consistently delivers on its genetic promise.
