Smooth brome Lipalma

Genetics and performance: The profile of Lipalma Bromegrass

Smooth bromegrass (Bromus inermis) variety 'Lipalma' is the result of dedicated breeding work by Euro Grass Breeding KG and Deutsche Saatveredelung. Unlike wild populations, this variety is engineered for intensive forage production, focusing on biomass stability and adaptability to varying soil profiles.

Technical highlights

• Root system architecture: The primary strength of Lipalma lies in its robust rhizome development. Practically, this translates to high drought tolerance; the plant remains metabolically active during dry spells that would otherwise induce dormancy in other forage grasses. This deep-rooting network ensures rapid regrowth post-harvest.
• Nutritional physiology: The leaf apparatus of this variety is optimized for efficient photosynthesis. The breeders at Euro Grass Breeding KG emphasized maintaining high sugar concentrations in the stems during the bolting stage, which is vital for high-quality silage production.
• Growth efficiency: Lipalma exhibits early spring growth activation. This technical advantage allows agricultural enterprises to schedule the first cut early, optimizing feed flow and ensuring nutrient-rich fodder during the critical early-season period.

Integrating this variety into a crop rotation cycle serves a dual purpose: it secures a high-protein feed source while simultaneously improving soil structure through the soil-aggregating capabilities of its root system. Lipalma demonstrates excellent winter hardiness typical of European climates, making it a reliable solution for long-term hay fields and sustainable grazing systems.
