Sicily is a valuable and undemanding spicy-sweet crop with an outstanding bitter-nutty leaf flavor. The vegetative period lasts 20–25 days, after which a small rosette of succulent, aromatic leaves about 15–20 cm high forms. The variety is distinguished by high vitamin content and is popular both in open ground and in pot form for indoor growing.
Since the plant does not tolerate heat well and tends to bolt under moisture deficiency, it is best grown in a cool climate or provided with regular watering. Thanks to its rich taste and nutritional properties, Sicily leaves are often added to fresh salads and used as a spicy side dish to meat and fish dishes.
Sicily is valued for its versatility: it is suitable for preparing various appetizers, sauces, and spices, and can also serve as a bright accent in dishes thanks to its characteristic bitter-nutty hue. Thanks to its compact growth and short growing period, this variety easily fits into both small garden plots and home containers.
