Description GECHEI ZAMATOSH
Gechei Zamatosh is a technical grape variety of Hungarian selection intended for the production of wine and other grape products. This variety is characterized by early-mid ripening with a vegetation period of about 130 days; harvest ripens at the end of August. Bushes have medium or high vigor, and canes ripen well. Bunches have a cylindrical or cylinder-conical shape, very dense, and of medium weight around 150 grams. Berries are small, round, white in color with an amber tint, weighing 1.2-1.5 grams, with thin skin and juicy flesh. The taste is harmonious with a light muscat aroma, and there are usually two seeds inside the berries. Sugar content reaches 18-23 g/100 cm³, while titratable acidity is 8.5-9.5 g/cm³. The variety is distinguished by high yield — up to 90-120 centners per hectare, which corresponds to approximately 12 tons of grapes, although yield regulation is recommended on fertile soils. The fruiting coefficient varies from 1 to 1.7. Bush load is 60-80 buds, pruning is short, on 3-5 buds. Bushes form a double-arm cordons with a reserve covering sleeve, optimal planting scheme is 3 by 1.5 meters or 3 by 1 meter. Leaves are five-lobed, medium size, round shape, weakly or moderately dissected. Cane ripens well, which contributes to the variety's high winter hardiness. Gechei Zamatosh has high resistance to mildew and powdery mildew, with a maximum damage score of 2-2.5, which allows limiting to 1-2 preventive treatments against fungal diseases. However, the variety is not resistant to gray mold and has weak resistance to phylloxera. Winter hardiness is high — bushes withstand frosts down to -25°C without damage to the harvest, which makes cultivation in semi-covered culture possible. Grapes of this variety are versatile in winemaking: from it one can produce both dry table wines with neutral or light muscat aromatics, and sweet wines with pronounced muscat flavor. Wines turn out balanced, fresh, with aromas of field herbs, flowers, honey, and citrus; they are best consumed young, although the variety has potential for aging.
