Dill MENESTREL

Breeding Profile and Morphology

The «Ménestrel» (Minstrel) variety, developed by the Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK), is a versatile dill cultivar engineered for both high-yield leaf production and root development. The variety's core genetic advantage lies in its rapid regeneration rate after harvesting, a critical factor for high-intensity greenhouse or open-field crop rotations.

Technical Specifications

• Vegetation Cycle: A mid-season variety that allows for balanced harvest scheduling and steady supply.
• Plant Architecture: The variety develops an upright rosette, which significantly simplifies harvesting procedures and reduces crop loss due to rot in the lower foliage under high-humidity conditions.
• Pathogen Resistance: The original breeding focus included robust resistance to common umbelliferous pathogens, reducing the dependency on systemic fungicide applications in commercial plots.

Practical Application and Agronomy

Designed for professional vegetable farming, «Ménestrel» excels in leaf-mass output per square meter. The leaves feature intense coloration and a superior aromatic profile due to a high concentration of essential oils, ensuring market viability in the fresh herbs segment. In terms of field management, density control is essential: lower seeding rates encourage maximum root system development, providing flexibility for specialized production niches beyond traditional green-cut operations.
