Corn hybrid RAM 8149 is a simple grain hybrid developed by the scientific and production agrocorporation "Stepnaya" and recommended for cultivation in steppe, forest-steppe zones, and the Polissia region. It belongs to mid-early maturity varieties with FAO 280, maturing in 105-115 days. Plants reach a height of 250-270 cm, do not bush out, and have 15-17 leaves on the main stem. The cylindrical ear, 18-22 cm long, is attached at a height of 90-110 cm, contains 12-14 rows of yellow-orange intermediate-type kernels. The 1000-kernel weight is 270-290 grams, and the grain quickly loses moisture, facilitating drying and storage preparation.
The hybrid exhibits high resistance to most corn pathogens, including smut, as well as to major pests. It has high drought tolerance due to its well-developed root system, enabling plants to obtain sufficient water and minerals even under prolonged drought conditions. The stems are strong and flexible, ensuring high resistance to lodging and stem breakage. Additionally, the hybrid is adapted to lower temperatures and is tolerant to cultivation conditions, making it suitable for intensive farming and energy-saving technologies.
The recommended planting density varies depending on the natural zone: 45-55 thousand plants per hectare for steppe, 55-65 thousand for forest-steppe, and 65-70 thousand for Polissia. The hybrid demonstrates high yield potential — up to 12.5-13 tons of grain per hectare, with a grain yield of 82%, starch content of 71.5%, and protein content of 9.1%. For weed and pest control, it is recommended to use quality agrochemicals. Seeds are packaged in multi-layer strong paper bags of 80 thousand kernels, ensuring convenient storage and transportation.
