NS 400 — a universal mid-season corn hybrid with a vegetation period of about 120 days and FAO 380-400, intended for cultivation both as grain and silage. This hybrid was included in the State Register of Ukraine in 2001 and is distinguished by high yields: over 160 ц/ha of grain and up to 650 ц/ha of silage. NS 400 successfully adapts to various climatic and soil conditions, making it suitable for cultivation in both steppe and forest-steppe zones. For maximum grain yield, it is recommended to plant the hybrid in the steppe zone, while for quality silage, it is best suited for the forest-steppe zone.
The hybrid is characterized by a strong root system and a sturdy, elastic stem ranging from 220 to 300 cm in height, providing resistance to lodging and stress, including drought and diseases, particularly tolerance to common rust.
The ears are large, slightly conical, with 14 rows of dent kernels, each row containing 48-50 kernels. The 1000-kernel weight is 450-490 g, indicating high seed quality.
For silage cultivation, a planting density of approximately 65,000 plants per hectare is recommended, while for grain production, plant densities range from 45,000 plants per hectare in the steppe zone to 55-60,000 in the forest-steppe zone. The hybrid NS 400 exhibits plasticity and stable yields even under limited moisture conditions, ensuring grain yields of 80-85 ц/ha under dryland conditions. Thanks to its characteristics and versatility, NS 400 is a reliable choice for farmers seeking high-quality grain and silage yields.
