DN Ajamka

DN Ajamka — a medium-maturing, intensive-type hybrid of sugar corn, developed by the Institute of Steppe Agriculture in Dnipro and registered in the State Register of Varieties in 2015. This hybrid is intended for cultivation in the steppe regions of Ukraine and is characterized by high yield, reaching a potential level of up to 13 tons per hectare under high agronomic practices. The vegetative period is 115-120 days, corresponding to the medium-maturing group with FAO 320.

The hybrid exhibits enhanced drought resistance and moderate cold tolerance, enabling it to successfully withstand dry and hot climates, as well as high solar activity. Plants have an overall height of 210-230 cm, with ears attached at a height of 85-95 cm. The ear has a conical-cylindrical shape, 21-22 cm long, with 14 rows of kernels and 36-40 kernels per row. The kernels are yellow-orange, elongated-round with a toothed shape, and the thousand-kernel weight ranges from 270-290 g. The grain yield reaches 82%, and the moisture content at harvest is within 12.5-18.3%.

The hybrid is resistant to diseases such as common smut and lodging, and is not prone to shattering or pest damage. Plants show weak tendency to branching and good seedling uniformity, although early development is slower, followed by active growth. The recommended plant density at harvest is 50-55 thousand plants per hectare. DN Ajamka is among the leaders in yield among modern corn hybrids and is optimal for cultivation in Ukraine’s steppe zone.
