DK Velès — this is a medium-early simple modified hybrid of sweet corn with FAO 270, developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of NAAN of Ukraine. The plant is tall, reaching 230-240 cm in height, with a well-developed leaf apparatus and pronounced remontancy, ensuring its versatility for use both for grain and silage. The ear is cylindrical in shape, 22-23 cm long, with 16 rows of kernels and a red stalk, having a well-developed tip. The kernels are yellow-orange, dent-shaped, with a floury pericarp and a characteristic depression at the tip; the 1000-kernel weight is 280-300 g, and the grain yield reaches 81-82%. The hybrid is distinguished by high drought and heat resistance, as well as good cold tolerance, enabling successful cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia. Thanks to resistance to infection by powdery mildew, as well as to stalk and vegetative wilting, DK Velès demonstrates stability and reliability under agronomic conditions. Remontancy of the plants is particularly evident during dry periods, which contributes to increasing the grain moisture at harvest by 2-3%. Plantings exhibit slow initial development, but they subsequently establish well. The hybrid is recommended for cultivation at varying planting densities depending on the zone: in Steppe — 50,000 plants per hectare, in Forest-Steppe — 80,000, in Polissia — 80-90,000 plants per hectare. Grain yield reaches 110-130 c/ha, and silage yield — 550-600 c/ha, making DK Velès a profitable choice for farmers seeking high-quality and stable yields under diverse climatic and soil conditions.
