KARAKAS

The 'Karakas' carrot variety is a mid-season hybrid of the Chantenay type, developed by the Dutch company Bejo Zaden. This variety is characterized by its plasticity to various weather conditions and soil types, allowing it to be cultivated throughout Ukraine. The vegetative period is approximately 95 days, and with proper care, the yield reaches 5-7 kg per square meter, which corresponds to 331-530 centners per hectare and exceeds standard indicators for the Chantenay variety. The root crops have a conical shape with a blunt or rounded tip, a length of 13-18 cm and a diameter of 4-5 cm, and weight varies from 95 to 190 grams.

The 'Karakas' carrot leaves are long, light green, and moderately dissected, forming a semi-spreading rosette. The root crops are colored bright orange both outside and inside, without green 'shoulders'. The inner core and skin have the same rich shade. The dry matter content in root crops is 12.5-15.8%, total sugar is 6.9-9.9%, and carotene is up to 19.8 mg per 100 grams of raw product. Taste quality is evaluated as good and excellent, with a high juice content, making the carrot attractive for home cooking and fresh consumption.

The variety is resistant to cracking, which facilitates washing and packaging. To increase yield, it is recommended to follow crop rotation, loosen and moisten the soil, as well as carry out timely pest control and weed removal. 'Karakas' carrot is suitable for both fresh market sales and winter storage, making it a universal choice for farmers and gardeners.
