Blueberry Lakomka

Practical Application in Cultivation

The 'Lakomka' blueberry, developed by the Russian Federal Research Institute of Silviculture and Mechanization of Forestry, is a cultivar tailored for small-scale farms and home gardens where efficient space management is essential. With a bush height reaching 100 cm, it allows for denser planting patterns compared to more vigorous varieties, optimizing land use while maintaining adequate air circulation between plants.

Agrotechnical Insights and Operations

• Simplified Maintenance: Due to its compact 1-meter stature, pruning and general crop management can be performed manually with minimal effort. The absence of trellis systems significantly reduces initial infrastructure investment costs.
• Harvesting Performance: The blue-colored berries average 12 mm in size. The skin integrity is sufficient for manual harvesting and sorting, making it a viable option for direct-to-consumer sales or local farmers' markets.
• Site Requirements: To maximize yield, soil acidity must be strictly controlled (pH 3.5–4.5), and a drip irrigation system is highly recommended to maintain consistent moisture levels, as is standard practice for professional blueberry cultivation.

This variety is best suited for scenarios involving hand-picking or 'pick-your-own' business models, where the low height of the bush ensures a comfortable picking experience. 'Lakomka' provides a robust and reliable yield, making it a practical choice for growers who prioritize ease of harvest and predictable growth cycles over mechanical, large-scale industrial processing.
