Blueberry Katahdin

Early Harvest: American Breeding for Greenhouse Cultivation

The 'Katagdin' variety is a product of the Michigan State University breeding program, officially registered in Ukraine in 2026. This complex blueberry hybrid is tailored for professional greenhouse production, offering growers predictable yields and an early harvest window.

Fruit Characteristics

Unlike many other varieties, 'Katagdin' features high fruit firmness, which is critical for transport and extended shelf life. The medium-sized berries have a flattened shape and a deep blue color, masked by a heavy waxy bloom. The flavor profile is well-balanced: high sugar content paired with moderate acidity makes these berries highly desirable for both the fresh market and processing.

Agronomic Profile

• Fruiting Habit: Produces fruit exclusively on one-year-old shoots, simplifying bush pruning and seasonal management.
• Growth Habit: A compact, upright shrub that allows for efficient space utilization in greenhouse environments.
• Timing: Early flowering and early ripening allow producers to hit the market at the beginning of the season when demand is at its peak.
• Adaptability: Successfully adapted for the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissya regions when grown under protected conditions.

'Katagdin' is the choice for growers prioritizing efficiency. Its low vigor and compact structure make it ideal for high-density planting schemes, while the superior firmness of the berries minimizes post-harvest losses.
