Basil VIOLET GLITTER

Practical Cultivation Guidelines for 'Violet Gloss' Basil

For professional growers, 'Violet Gloss' (Fioletovyy Blesk) represents a reliable, mid-season variety developed by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production. The plant reaches a mature height of 50–60 cm, making it a manageable crop for both mechanized and manual field operations.

Plant Management and Maintenance

The variety produces dense, lush foliage, requiring careful attention to planting spacing to ensure proper airflow and prevent fungal issues during humid weather. The characteristic deep purple leaf color remains vibrant even under intense sunlight, which is a major advantage for maintaining high-quality standards in fresh market produce.

Yield and Efficiency

This variety responds well to standard agricultural practices, including regular irrigation and nutrient application. To maximize yields per square meter, regular pinching of the main stems is recommended to promote lateral branching. The plant structure allows for efficient harvesting, minimizing labor time and costs. Its adaptability makes it suitable for both open-field production and greenhouse conditions.

Aromatic and Culinary Profile

The distinct flavor profile is defined by a strong spicy, clove-like, and peppery bouquet. The taste is pleasantly sweet rather than bitter, which provides high utility in the culinary sector. 'Violet Gloss' is highly prized for its versatility, performing consistently well in fresh salads, complex spice mixes, and marinade production, where it retains its essential oil potency throughout processing.
