Smuglyanka

Smuglyanka is a mid-early variety of basil with a maturation period of about 40-50 days. The plant is upright, semi-spreading, 50-60 cm tall, and well-leafed. Leaves are of medium size, dark purple in color, with a pungent pepper flavor and spicy aroma, which makes the variety particularly attractive both in cooking and for medicinal purposes.

This variety is valued for its valuable nutritional and medicinal properties. Leaves and tender young shoots are used fresh as a seasoning for salads, meat and fish dishes. Unique medicinal balms are made from Smuglyanka basil seeds by infusing them in vodka for 3-4 weeks in a dark, cool place. Infusions and decoctions from leaves and flowers help normalize digestion and metabolism, regulate blood pressure and heart rate, strengthen the immune system and nervous system, and also help relieve fatigue, anxiety, depression, and headaches.

To grow Smuglyanka basil, it is recommended to follow agronomic rules, as this is a heat-loving crop that requires proper planting, care, and protection from diseases and pests. The yield of the variety is about 2–2.5 kg per square meter. Thanks to the stable spicy aroma and rich taste, Smuglyanka basil is widely used both fresh and in dried, canned, and frozen states, making it a versatile ingredient in cooking and folk medicine.
