Description EVESEY
Evesey is a mid-ripening variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) with a semi-upright bush and medium-height plant, 68–75 cm tall. The botanical variety of the cultivar is var. nutans, featuring a two-row loose ear and long rachises. The grain is large, yellow in color, with an un-hairy ventral groove; the mass of 1000 grains varies from 37 to 55 g depending on growing conditions. The variety is characterized by low photoperiod sensitivity and good tillering, which contributes to high adaptability to various climatic conditions. Evesey possesses high resistance to lodging and drought, making it particularly valuable for cultivation in the Central Black Earth and North Caucasus regions. It is resistant to a range of diseases, including loose smut, root rots, helminthosporium, rhynchosporium, net blotch, and shows relative resistance to dark brown spot and powdery mildew. Disease infection does not exceed 3–10%, ensuring yield stability and grain quality. The Evesey variety was created through intraspecific hybridization and multiple individual selection from a hybrid population obtained from the crossbreeding of the Vicount 3 and Landora M varieties. It is intended primarily for forage use and is characterized by high yield—in competitive variety trials, the average yield reached 53.3 c/ha in the Central Black Earth region and 30.7 c/ha in the North Caucasus, exceeding standard varieties by 0.69 t/ha. The grain contains 13.0–14.6% protein, which further enhances its forage value. Evesey is recommended for cultivation in the specified regions due to its high productivity and adaptability.
