LYBOYAR

LYBOYAR is a medium-maturing spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety intended primarily for grain-fodder use. It is characterized by resistance to root rots and high thousand-kernel weight, ranging from 38 to 55 grams. Protein content in the grain reaches 12.8%, indicating good quality raw material for fodder purposes. The variety is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Northwestern, Central, and Volga-Vyatsky regions, where average yield ranges from 32.0 to 40.4 centners per hectare.


Barley LYBOYAR is widely used in agriculture, especially in the Central region of Russia, where it is cultivated primarily for fodder purposes. Thanks to its economically valuable traits and stable productivity, this variety contributes to the formation of strategic grain reserves and the expansion of export potential. The use of new breeding material in selection programs allows for improving the quality and quantity of the yield, which is important for the development of the agro-industrial complex.


Research conducted under conditions of the Forest-steppe zone of the Central region on dark-gray forest soils showed that the optimal sowing rate of LYBOYAR seeds is 4.0 million viable seeds per hectare. Such a rate ensures high field germination, good plant preservation, and maximum yield, reaching 7.05 tons per hectare. When the sowing rate is increased to 4.5 million grains, thousand-kernel weight decreases, however, the number of productive stems and plants before harvesting increases, which also affects the final yield.
