SACHALINSKAYA ZHEMZHUZHINA

The 'Sachalinskaya Zhemchuzhina' apple variety is a winter variety of Ukrainian selection, bred in 1984. The tree is characterized by rapid growth and forms a widely pyramidal crown with a height of 3 to 3.5 meters. On a medium-sized stock, it begins to bear fruit in the 3-4th year after planting, reaching a yield of 40-50 kg per tree by the age of eight. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to major fruit tree diseases, such as powdery mildew, scab, fruit rot, and brown spot, as well as undemandingness to growing conditions. The fruits of the 'Sachalinskaya Zhemchuzhina' apple are medium and large in size, weighing from 160 to 220 grams, and have an oval-conical shape with a ribbed apex. Their skin is dense, dry, and elastic, colored greenish-yellow with a bright maroon-red blurred blush covering almost the entire surface. The flesh is greenish-cream, finely granular, very dense and juicy, with a sweet-and-sour taste. Harvesting maturity occurs in the third decade of September, while commercial maturity is in early November. The fruits store well in refrigerated conditions until March and are suitable for both fresh consumption and processing into high-quality juice. Additionally, the 'Sachalinskaya' apple is characterized by an early start of vegetation and is suitable for urban greening. The leaves have an egg-shaped or oval shape and in autumn acquire a pale green tint with yellow tones. The flowers are snow-white with a rich aroma and bloom at the end of May - early June. The tree bears fruit annually, which makes it attractive to gardeners who value stability and decorativeness.
