The «Locard Vert» apple variety is a product of French breeding, officially included in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2026. Designed for universal use, this variety serves as a flexible tool for both commercial farming and private gardening. Due to its high adaptability, the variety has successfully passed trials for cultivation across all key agro-climatic zones of Ukraine: the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia.

Field Performance and Resilience

The tree is characterized by moderate vigor and a branched crown type with a spreading habit. Fruiting occurs on both short and long shoots, which simplifies crown management and allows for efficient canopy utilization. The leaves are oriented upwards, promoting better aeration and light penetration within the tree structure.

Key aspects of the variety's resilience include:

• Heat and Drought Tolerance: Moderate growth vigor and average internode length allow the tree to manage moisture efficiently. The absence of significant pubescence on young shoots and the moderate green intensity of the leaves indicate a balanced metabolism, which is crucial for survival in the arid conditions of the Steppe.
• Disease Resistance: The variety shows stable development. The moderate pubescence on the underside of the leaves and the average density of lenticels on the shoots create a natural barrier against various pathogens common in apple orchards.
• Zoning: The versatility of «Locard Vert» is confirmed by its suitability for all zones (SLP). This means the variety is capable of adapting to both the humid climate of Polissia and the harsher conditions of the southern regions.

Fruit Characteristics

«Locard Vert» is a late-maturing variety. The fruits are small, oblate-globose in shape, and feature a distinct green color without significant overcolor. The bloom on the skin is moderate, ensuring good shelf life during storage. The lack of significant greasiness on the skin simplifies post-harvest handling and processing.
