Description Chestnut New
Late autumn variety. Obtained at the I.V. Michurin All-Union Institute of Fruit Growing by crossing Chestnut Striped with Welsh. Author S.I. Isaev. Approved for the Northwest and Central regions. Widely grown in amateur and commercial orchards of the Non-Chernozem zone.

Tree vigorous. Young crown pyramidal, becoming high-rounded and dense with age, built from strong skeletal branches diverging at sharp angles. Bark on trunk and skeletal branches brown, reddish-brown with a cherry tint in nurseries, with white lenticels. Fruit set (fig.) mainly on ring buds.

Shoots straight, thick, brown, densely hairy. Leaves dark green, large, ranging from broadly egg-shaped to elongated-egg-shaped, densely hairy, wrinkled with a pointed, sometimes strongly bent tip, coarsely toothed. Leaf petiole thick, medium length, anthocyanic color, angled sharply to the shoot. Stipules small, lanceolate.
Flowers large, white with a slight pink tinge, stigmas lower or level with stamens.

Fruits (fig.) medium to above-medium size (mass 130-160 g), round-conical, fairly uniform. Skin smooth, thick. Main color greenish-yellow; covering color as irregular red streaks and specks on most of the fruit, with numerous grayish or rust-colored subcutaneous spots. Fruit stalk thick, short or medium length. Calyx deep, medium width. Cup large, half-open. Dish spacious, deep, ribbed. Core onion-shaped. Chambers small, closed or half-open. Sub-cup tube conical or funnel-shaped, slightly entering the core. Seeds large, egg-shaped, pointed, brown.
Flesh creamy color, medium density, juicy, tender, slightly tart-sweet, dessert flavor, aromatic. In terms of taste, fruits do not lag behind southern fruits. Chemical composition of fruits: sugars — 10.35%, titratable acids — 0.89%, ascorbic acid — 14.5 mg/100g, sum of P-active substances — 115 mg/100g.

Fruits are evenly distributed in the crown and remain firmly on the tree upon ripening. High-quality variety.
Fruits are consumed fresh. Fresh consumption ends in January.
Fruits are suitable for processing.
Fruit-bearing begins at 6-7 years. Young trees bear fruit moderately, with increasing yield over time, but fruiting becomes periodic. Yield is high; average yield of 15-20-year-old trees reaches 180 centners/ha.
Regarding winter hardiness, only slightly inferior to the parent variety Chestnut Striped. Resistant to fungal diseases and highly field-resistant to scab.

Advantages of the variety: good winter hardiness, large, high-quality, uniform, transportable dessert fruits, high resistance to scab.

Disadvantages of the variety: late fruiting onset, periodic fruiting, short fruit storage life, high, vigorous crown, sharp angle of skeletal branch divergence. In dry summers, when moisture returns, fruit cracking is observed.
