It is highly intolerant of waterlogging, as the root system is prone to decay if soil moisture remains excessive for extended periods. Providing a rocky or gravelly substrate mimics its natural environment.

Light intensity is a critical factor for the Rhaetian rose. Being a mountain species, it thrives under full solar exposure. Adequate sunlight not only promotes robust vegetative growth but is also essential for the initiation and proper development of the flower buds during the summer season.

Regarding climate, the plant exhibits excellent cold tolerance, making it suitable for regions with harsh, snowy winters. However, it requires a clear seasonal shift to enter dormancy properly. It is not recommended for humid, lowland environments where tropical-like heat and humidity prevail.

General maintenance practices include occasional pruning to remove dead or diseased stems, which helps maintain plant vigor. Since it is a wild-type species, it does not require intensive fertilization, as excessive nutrient levels can make it more susceptible to certain types of environmental stress.

Common phytopathological threats to Rosa rhaetica include powdery mildew, which often manifests during periods of high humidity and poor air circulation. Ensuring the planting site is airy and open is the most effective preventative measure against this fungal pathogen.

Pests such as aphids and spider mites can cause significant damage to young shoots and leaves. Monitoring the undersides of leaves during the early vegetative stage allows for early intervention, preferably using gentle methods like horticultural oils or insecticidal soaps.

Rust fungi represent another serious challenge, appearing as orange spots on the foliage after prolonged rainy weather. Removing and destroying infected leaves helps limit the spread of fungal spores throughout the rest of the shrub.

Winter damage to the bark, caused by rodents or severe frost cracking, requires immediate attention in the spring. Covering the base of the plant with protective material or metal mesh during the winter months can prevent extensive damage from wildlife.

To keep the plant healthy, periodic inspection of the root crown is advisable. Soil-borne pests or larvae can occasionally damage the underground part of the plant, necessitating the use of specialized systemic treatments only when absolutely essential for plant survival.
