Climate requirements for this species include distinct continental patterns, characterized by hot, dry summers and relatively cool winters. The Vavilov plum shows significant adaptation to sharp fluctuations between day and night temperatures, making it a valuable subject for breeding in arid regions.

The crop is highly drought-tolerant; however, to achieve a commercial-quality harvest in a garden setting, periodic watering during the active fruiting phase is necessary. The tree is sun-loving and requires placement in well-lit areas without shading from other high-growing species.

From an agrotechnical perspective, the plant requires formative and sanitary pruning to maintain crown health. Given the rarity of the species, maintaining varietal purity and ensuring cross-pollination are essential steps for achieving stable fruit set during the growing season.

Among pests, the plum fruit moth and aphids pose the greatest threat to health and yield. Under conditions of moderate humidity, fruit rot or grey mold may occur, making proper crown aeration and preventing overcrowding of branches essential.

To prevent the spread of pests, the use of pheromone traps and regular monitoring of foliage condition are recommended. Preventive care includes cleaning the area around the trunk of fallen leaves and mummified fruits, which may harbor pathogens during the winter.

Biological control methods are preferred over chemical interventions, considering the genetic value of this rare species. In cases of severe infestation, systemic insecticides may be used, provided that strict waiting periods before harvest are observed to ensure safety.

The resistance of the Vavilov plum to pathogens is generally higher than that of hybrid garden varieties, thanks to the natural immunity of its wild ancestor. Nevertheless, environmental stressors can weaken the trees, making them more susceptible to opportunistic infections.
