The life cycle of Chaitophoridae is complex and typically involves asexual reproduction (parthenogenesis) throughout the spring and summer months. This rapid reproductive strategy allows the population to explode in a short time. As the season ends, sexual forms emerge to produce eggs, which are deposited in bark crevices or near buds, ensuring the species survives the winter.

Damage caused by these pests includes leaf curling, stunted growth, and yellowing foliage. By extracting plant sap, they deprive the tree of vital nutrients, leading to a general decline in health.
