Description Abba
Spring barley variety ABBA is a medium-maturing, low-growing variety with a vegetation period of 83 to 90 days and plant height ranging from 58 to 72 cm. This variety is characterized by high drought resistance and large grain size, with thousand-grain weight varying from 43 to 60 grams. ABBA belongs to intensive universal varieties, primarily intended for brewing purposes, but also suitable for fodder applications. Protein content in the grain is approximately 11%, meeting the requirements for brewing barley. Yield potential reaches 6 tons per hectare, with maximum yields in certain regions reaching up to 107 centners per hectare.

ABBA exhibits high productive tillering and resistance to lodging (9 points), as well as good resistance to shattering (7 points). It shows high resistance to diseases such as helminthosporium, powdery mildew, and rust, each rated at 8 points on the resistance scale. However, the variety is susceptible to stem rust, powdery mildew, root rot, and helminthosporium, and has moderate resistance to damage from the Swedish fly, requiring preventive fungicide and insecticide treatments, including growth regulators.

ABBA is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones, including forest-steppe, meadow-steppe, and steppe regions, as well as areas of the Northwestern, Central Chernozem, West Siberian, and East Siberian federal districts. Optimal preceding crops for this variety are peas, corn, rapeseed, and soy. Recommended seeding rate is 350–400 seeds per square meter. Grain storage conditions require temperatures between +7 to +10°C and moisture content not exceeding 10%. The variety was developed in Germany and supplied in 1000 kg packages.
