Barley Augi

Stable Yields with Minimal Effort

Field experience with the 'Avhiy' barley variety from the Mironivsky Institute of Wheat demonstrates that this two-row variety focuses primarily on consistency. For an agronomist, this means less frequent trips into the field with a sprayer. Genetic resistance to dwarf leaf rust relieves a significant burden during the grain-filling period, while comprehensive tolerance to powdery mildew, Mycosphaerella leaf blotch, and brown spot allows for a standard crop protection schedule without the risk of losing yields to disease outbreaks.

Field Ergonomics and Harvesting

The short stature is the main advantage of this variety regarding operational efficiency. With a plant height of 70–80 cm, the crop is resistant to lodging, which is critical for mechanized harvesting. Operators will appreciate the uniform ripening: a 90–100 day growing season makes harvest scheduling straightforward. The low straw mass reduces the load on the threshing mechanisms and simplifies post-harvest soil tillage.

Grain Economics

In terms of commercial quality, 'Avhiy' consistently maintains a thousand-kernel weight between 44–46 grams. This is a heavy, well-filled grain that is easily processed and possesses a high natural weight. The investment in seeding is justified by the predictability of emergence and the crop's rapid early growth. For farms prioritizing intensive production technology in Ukraine, this variety offers a high return on investment, requiring minimal intervention during critical growth stages.
