Barley Balzam

Practical Guide to Cultivating «Balzam» Spring Barley

Selecting a variety that combines low maintenance with high output is the goal of every farm manager. Developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute, «Balzam» spring barley is designed for agricultural operations that prioritize efficient technology and predictable results.

Operational Performance and Field Management

• Early Growth Stages: The variety shows excellent germination energy. Uniform field emergence allows for precise herbicide application rates and consistent crop canopy development, simplifying subsequent field operations.
• Crop Protection Efficiency: One of the key benefits of working with this variety is its inherent resistance to common leaf diseases. This biological resilience allows operators to optimize their spray schedules and reduce expenditures on fungicides, effectively lowering the cost per hectare.
• Harvesting and Threshing: Field operators appreciate the variety for its harvest-friendly characteristics. The spikes resist lodging, and the grain is resistant to shedding even if harvesting is delayed due to weather. Standard combine harvester settings are sufficient for high-speed harvesting with minimal grain injury.

Economic Efficiency

From an operational standpoint, «Balzam» is highly responsive to fertilizer management, allowing agronomists to maximize yields without unnecessary complexity. Its grain uniformity simplifies logistics and storage, as it does not require intensive processing at the grain elevator. By choosing this variety, you gain a robust tool that performs consistently across various soil types, ensuring that your machinery and inputs are used to their full potential.
