Barley is an annual grassy plant belonging to the cereal family, widely used in agriculture. It is characterized by an upright, nodding stem up to 60 cm tall and a fibrous root system. Barley flowers are bisexual and mostly self-pollinating, although cross-pollination may occur in hot weather. Barley grain can be either adherent to the floral bracts or naked, with a broad and compressed shape. Grain ripens in August-September, with a seeding rate of 160-220 grams per hundred square meters. Barley is widely used in food, technical, and feed sectors due to its high content of starch, protein, and beneficial vitamins. In Ukraine, particularly in the Barvin region, barley is highly popular as a profitable agricultural crop with attractive purchase prices. Cultivation of barley requires consideration of climatic conditions, which affect the quality and yield of the crop. Several varieties of barley exist, including multi-row, two-row, and intermediate types, allowing adaptation to various agronomic tasks and climatic zones. Due to its nutritional properties and versatility, barley is a key component of Ukraine's agro-industrial complex and an important export product.
