Description Avus
Barley variety Avus is a high-yielding genetically modified variety developed in Canada in 2015. This variety is characterized by high yields, reaching 130 to 190 centners per hectare, depending on growing conditions. Seeds have a 1000-seed mass of about 62 grams, germination and energy of germination reach 98%, and grain moisture is 13%. Avus features a ten-row ear up to 28 cm long, containing about 400 grains, which contributes to high productivity.

Avus variety exhibits outstanding drought resistance, tolerating temperatures up to +60°C, as well as resistance to abiotic stresses, including spring temperature fluctuations and frosts down to -18°C at the full development stage of the plant. In addition, it is resistant to fungal diseases, viruses, soil salinity, and acid rain, making it a reliable choice for cultivation under various climatic conditions. The variety can be sown repeatedly on the same field for up to 7-10 years without significant loss of yield.

Sowing of Avus barley is recommended at a depth of 3-4 cm, starting from mid-February to May in southern regions and from late February to April in northern regions. The seeding rate is approximately 60 kg per hectare. Seed protection involves insecticides such as Cruiser with thiamethoxam, and herbicides may be used if necessary. Nitroammophoska at a rate of 220 kg per hectare is recommended as fertilizer at sowing or immediately after. Harvesting is conducted from June to July using combine harvesters.
