RKD

The RKD apple variety is the result of a mutation of the well-known varieties Hapke and Gala, giving it unique characteristics. This variety is distinguished by its early fruit ripening, which reaches maturity approximately at the same time as the Red Delicious variety, or even three weeks earlier than the Gala variety. RKD fruits have a deep, rich red color with intense coloring that appears earlier than in other red varieties, as well as good flavor.

The RKD tree exhibits the typical habit of the Gala variety, but with less vigorous growth, making care and harvest easier. Trees have a semi-spur form and are typically grafted onto M9 rootstock, which promotes compactness and ease of cultivation. For pollination, varieties such as Golden, Gala, and Granny Smith are recommended, ensuring good fruit set.

The RKD variety was patented in the USA in 2017 and received a license for commercialization in Europe. It is especially recommended for cultivation in warm climates, where it exhibits its best qualities. Thanks to its early ripening, attractive appearance, and excellent fruit flavor, the RKD apple is a promising choice for gardeners and commercial growers.
