The Ruby Duky apple variety is the result of selection by the Ukrainian Institute of Horticulture, obtained by crossing Jonathan and Alexander Aport varieties. The tree is medium-sized or moderately vigorous, with a round, moderately dense crown and spreading branches. The angle of main branch departure is close to vertical, shoots are dark brown, medium length, and hairy. Leaves are dark green, matte, elongated-ovate with a short sharp tip and densely hairy petioles. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness, tolerating temperatures down to -35...-42 °C without damage to fruiting, as well as good disease resistance, although under high humidity, fruits may be slightly affected by scab.
Fruits of the Ruby Duky variety are of medium to above-average size, weighing from 100 to 190 grams, reaching 200-250 grams on young trees. They are flat-round or blunt-conical with a wide base and weak ribbing at the top. Fruit skin is covered with dull golden-brown russet or beautiful yellow-ruby color with a dark red solid blush. Flesh is light cream-colored with greenish tinge, firm, juicy, tart-sweet, and aromatic. Fruits have high storability and can be stored until May-June, making them popular for long-term consumption and transportation.
The variety is early-bearing, entering fruiting on the 3-4th year after planting, while providing a stable and high yield. The Ruby Duky apple tree is valued for its high winter hardiness, attractive fruits, good yield, and excellent taste. Thanks to these characteristics, the variety is popular among gardeners and has high market value.
