Wheat Pokrova

Stability and Quality: Why "Pokrova" Is a Preferred Choice for Farmers

Winter wheat "Pokrova," developed by the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine, represents a balanced solution for those seeking a mix of intensive yield potential and agricultural reliability. Unlike many imported hybrids that require flawless conditions, "Pokrova" demonstrates remarkable plasticity to the varied soil and climatic conditions of Ukraine.

Agronomic Profile

The standout feature of this variety is its compact architecture. Reaching a height of 80–90 cm, the plants possess strong resistance to lodging, allowing farmers to apply intensive nitrogen fertilizer programs without the fear of yield losses during harvest. The grain quality is high: the 1000-kernel weight ranges from 35 to 40 grams, with a gluten content of 25–30%, classifying it as a high-value milling wheat.

Protection Against Pathogens

Pathogen pressure is a major concern for any wheat producer. "Pokrova" holds a competitive edge due to its complex resistance:

• Genetic immunity to brown rust (Puccinia recondita) reduces the necessity for multiple fungicide applications.
• Built-in resistance to the frit fly (Oscinella frit) helps prevent early-stage crop loss.
• High tolerance to fusarium and powdery mildew ensures grain quality remains intact even during humid spring seasons.

Target Audience

With a potential yield of 7–8 tons per hectare, this variety is an optimal choice for farms planning medium-to-high inputs in agrotechnology while seeking a safety net against unpredictable weather. It is a workhorse, not a "fussy" variety, responding predictably to professional management. Its primary requirement is strict adherence to harvest timelines—delayed harvesting may lead to a decrease in test weight, so timely deployment of machinery is essential.
