Wheat NOVIC

French breeding for high productivity

The soft winter wheat variety "Novik" from the French selection center Caussade Semences is the result of years of work focused on genotype stabilization to reach a yield potential of 85 dt/ha. The engineering of this variety relies on balancing adaptability to environmental stress with an intensive tillering capacity.

Key technical specifications

• Yield potential: The claimed 85 dt/ha is attainable when following nitrogen fertilization protocols and ensuring high-quality fungicidal protection during the stem elongation phase.
• Biological type: As a winter variety, it requires vernalization, ensuring uniform growth stages even during a protracted autumn.
• Morphotype: Soft wheat "Novik" is characterized by high ear productivity, a critical factor for final thousand-grain weight.

The technical value of this variety lies in its stem lodging resistance. Caussade Semences' French genetics traditionally prioritize a shortened but robust straw structure, allowing the crop to handle intensive fertilization without compromising grain quality. In practice, this simplifies harvesting and minimizes field losses during mechanical processing.

For agronomists, "Novik" is notable for its flexibility: the variety efficiently absorbs nutrients during early growth stages, developing a strong root system before winter dormancy. When cultivating this variety, it is recommended to focus on phytopathogen control during late vegetative growth to fully realize the grain mass potential designed by the breeders.
