The spring soft wheat variety KASIBOVSKAYA 2 was created at Omsk State Agrarian University within the international KASIB program through individual selection from a shuttle breeding hybrid population. This variety belongs to the mid-early class and is characterized by high yield, reaching a potential of 6.5–7 tons per hectare. The maximum recorded yield was 4.36 t/ha, while the average yield from competitive trials was 3.62 t/ha. Grain quality meets the requirements for valuable and strong wheat, making it in demand for bread and other food production.
KASIBOVSKAYA 2 possesses high resistance to lodging, shattering, and grain sprouting on the root, which significantly facilitates the harvest and storage process. Due to the presence of Aegilops Squarrosa genes, the variety demonstrates high drought resistance, which is particularly important for cultivation in areas with insufficient moisture. Additionally, the variety is characterized by comprehensive resistance to main wheat diseases, including brown and stem rust, as well as septoria, ensured by a pyramid of resistance genes inherited from wild grasses.
The creation of the KASIBOVSKAYA 2 variety is part of scientific developments aimed at obtaining wheat with improved nutritional and agronomic characteristics. These studies include work with purple-seeded wheat and wheat bred from the weed quackgrass, which contain increased amounts of useful elements such as zinc and iron, as well as anthocyanins that promote immune strengthening. The powerful root system and high drought resistance of the variety allow for reducing energy expenditures in grain production, making it promising for sustainable agriculture.
