Galatea

Galatea is a new variety of soft winter wheat intended for cultivation in the Central region of Russia, including the Bryansk, Moscow, and Ryazan regions. The variety is characterized by medium maturity and tall growth, as well as enhanced winter hardiness, reaching 97%. It is resistant to lodging, which ensures crop preservation and facilitates harvesting. Galatea is distinguished by good resistance to diseases such as hard smut, moderate resistance to brown rust and powdery mildew, although under field conditions it may be affected more strongly by septoria and snow mold than some standard varieties. One of the key advantages of the Galatea variety is improved grain quality characteristics. Gluten content in the grain is 32-36%, which is higher or meets standards, and protein content reaches 12-13%. These indicators provide good baking qualities, making the variety valuable for producing quality flour and bread. The overall flour quality rating for Galatea is higher than that of the standard Angelina variety, confirming its high technological value. The yield of the Galatea variety is at a high level and ranges from 7.3 to 9.8 tons per hectare, significantly exceeding the indicators of many other winter wheat varieties. The economic efficiency of cultivating this variety is also high: profitability is higher compared to Angelina and Moscow 39 varieties, and the conditional net income reaches 58,780 rubles per hectare. Thanks to its characteristics and stable yield, Galatea contributes to food security and is a promising choice for farmers in the Central region.
