Malachite

Malachite is a variety of soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) bred for cultivation in the Middle Volga region. It is a medium-early maturing variety with a vegetative period ranging from 304 to 325 days. Plants reach a height of 77 to 106 cm, featuring a cylindrical white ear of medium length and density. The grain is elongated, red in color, with a hairy base and a medium groove. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 34 to 41 grams. The variety belongs to the erythrospermum group and is characterized by lodging resistance.

Malachite demonstrates good yield – the average for the region is 30.8 centners/ha, which is 1.9 centners/ha higher than the standard. The maximum yield recorded in the Ulyanovsk region reached 62.2 centners/ha. Baking qualities are rated as satisfactory, making it suitable for flour and bread production. The variety shows medium resistance to powdery mildew and septoria, but is highly susceptible to common bunt and vulnerable to brown rust and snow mold. To enhance sowing safety, pre-sowing seed treatment is recommended.

Malachite is distinguished by good adaptation to various climatic conditions and is used not only for baking but also for producing cereals and other food products. Its lodging resistance and medium winter hardiness ensure stable cultivation in regional conditions, making the variety in demand among agricultural producers focused on quality grain and high yield.
